EAST KENT PROVINCIAL CHARITIES ASSOCIATION
Annual Report For 2006
The Annual General Meeting was held at the Masonic Centre, Tovil, Maidstone on
Monday 25th September 2006, at which the Annual Accounts for the year ended
31st March 2006 were approved and adopted.
Brethren have continued to increase their use of the Association and during
the year the income from all sources exceeded £166,000. Income from tax
recovered under Gift Aid increased by more than 11%, demonstrating the growing
use of that method to support charitable activities.
The Brethren of the Province have also continued their very generous support
of those in need and during the year the payments to charities increased by
more than £54,000, that sum being accounted for by a payment of nearly £57,000
in aid for the Tsunami disaster.
At the end of the year the charitable funds placed with the Association
amounted to more than £660,000.
The Chairman reviewed the year as follows :-
The year has shown yet again the generosity and charity in the hearts of East
Kent Freemasons as funds continue to flow into the Association, whilst at the
same time support has been given to those in need, including those who have
suffered in major disasters such as the Tsunami.
The end of the year also saw changes in the running of the Association. A
number of the Trustees retired, most prominent among them being the Chairman,
W.Bro Noel Grout, and the Vice-chairman, W.Bro Graham Smith, both of whom have
been involved with the Association since its creation. The President, R. W.
Bro Michael Bailey, paid tribute to the contributions of all the Trustees over
many years. The Secretary and the Treasurer also retired at end of the year
and the President thanked both officers for all the work they had undertaken,
again over many years.
The President went on to appoint W.Bros Brian Powell, Peter Rodd, and Pat
Thomas as new Trustees of the Association, and to appoint W. Bro Pat Thomas as
the new Chairman and W. Bro Tony Denne as the new Vice-Chairman. W. Bro Pat
Flanagan was appointed the new Secretary of the Association, and W. Bro Keith
Pavey was appointed the new Treasurer.
The Association has been very successful over the 13 years of its existence
and it is appropriate to build on that success by ensuring that it meets
current needs and challenges. A full review of all aspects of the
Association's activities was put in hand and will lead to a further report in
due course.
All of the officers were thanked for their efforts during the year, and
particular mention was made of the dedication of W. Bro Barrie Harber who runs
the office of the Association on a day-to-day basis.
P.J. Thomas
Chairman
