THE PROVINCIAL GRAND MASTER’S CHARITY

Annual Report

During the financial period ended 30th September 2008 the Provincial Grand Master's Charity was subject to review and as a result a number of changes were made.

Firstly, as a result of a request from the Provincial Treasurer, and to ensure compatibility with the EKPCA, and other financial reports in the Province, the year-end for the PGM's Charity was changed from 31st March to 30th September. This report therefore refers to the period of 18 months to 30th September 2008.

Secondly, and after discussion, the decision was taken to merge the PGM's Discretionary Fund into the PGM's Charity for greater transparency and easier control. In doing so it was decided that in order to preserve the original purpose of the PGM's Charity £100,000 would be "ring fenced" for use in the event of "disaster".

There were no demands on the Charity under the heading of "disaster" but during the 18 month financial period to 30th September £28,550 was paid to a range of local charities. Of that sum £21,750 was reported in detail in the report to the Annual Festival in 2008. In addition to the sums reported at that time the following amounts have also been spent under the heading of "discretionary payments".

Demelza House, Bromley

£5,000

Salvation Army

£1,000

Masonic Charity Garden

£500

Macmillan Cancer

£300

Finally, heartfelt thanks must be extended to the "office team" - W. Bros Pat Flanagan and Keith Pavey - who manage the affairs of the Provincial Grand Master's Charity on a day-to-day basis and who have had to cope with all the changes this year.
